His master said to him,
‘Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few
things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your
master.” Matthew 25:21
The year 2005 overflowed with catastrophic
headlines and our hearts and prayers went out to those who were affected. If
you were among those who donated funds to these disasters, you are to be
commended.
This year I
want to challenge us to continue our stewardship giving in a different
manner. It is easy to get caught up in the “headliners” and to forget the
agencies that are fielding and ministering to needs on a daily basis all
around us. The Social Ministry team has put together an
outreach
ministries calendar for the year 2006. It is unlikely that any
of these agencies will qualify for the headlines, but their daily efforts
will make a significant difference to many.
These are the “catastrophes” we want to support this year! We want to
be sure that they are not forgotten in the shadow of the “headliners.”
On the second Sunday of each month we will have a
special focus on the ministry of the month, hopefully with a spokesperson
present from the agency. We will be introducing special stewardship projects
for each agency and invite your contribution of time, talent, or possessions
(not always money!). As your pastor, I would like to challenge you to give
to each of these stewardship opportunities this year. Let’s seek to be
faithful in the little, quiet, and humble ministries of our community, our
Church, and our world this year. We begin this month with Advocates of
Ozaukee County, an agency where new life safe from harm is encouraged and
supported.
